Some people are surprised to discover that tree stump removal is more difficult than chopping down the tree.
If you’re looking to remove a stump from
your garden, you need to know that it will take a lot of time and a lot of
effort.
Chainsaw and wedge method
First and foremost, with this method, make
sure you read all the manufacturer’s instructions before getting to work with a
chainsaw. The chainsaw is a great piece of kit but can be deadly.
For this method, you will need:
·
Chainsaw
·
Sledgehammer
·
Splitting wedges
Step 1. Use the chainsaw to cut the stump
as low to the ground as possible.
Step 2. Dig around the stump to expose the
main roots. You should normally expect to see 4-5 large roots. Free up as much
space as possible around these roots.
Step 3. Use the chainsaw to cut through the
roots at the point they meet the trunk.
Step 4. Now, quarter the stump using the
chainsaw. Starting at the top, cut down as deep as you can into the stump.
Step 5. Push your wedges into the slit you
have in the stump and then hit them with the sledgehammer.
Step 6. Keep striking the wedges until it
is possible to lift one-quarter of the stump out of the ground.
Step 7. Repeat until all quarters are
removed.
Step 8. Backfill the whole.
